The social norms approach is an increasingly popular technique which is used to promote behaviour change in a range of topics including binge drinking, drug use, smoke prevention, sexual health & bullying and is particularly effective in academic settings with young adults.
UCSNS was a collaborative piece of research between the University of Bradford and Tech Stories. It consisted of surveying UK students at university and college sites across the country of alcohol use, smoking, sexual health and a range of other behaviours. Evidence was found that these students overestimate the rates of unhealthy and risky behaviour in their peers, providing support for the potential application of the social norms approach. The findings of this study will shortly be reported.
